What is a pressure transducer?
A pressure transducer is a device that is used to measure the pressure of a certain liquid. By doing so, it provides data regarding the force that the fluid is applying to surfaces within a system. This device can be used for many different applications and is commonly used in the industrial and research industries. It is commonly used for the monitoring and control of flow, air speed, level, pump systems or altitude, depending on the type of pressure transducer being used.
How does it work?
In order to calculate the pressure within a system, a pressure transducer uses a force collector that deforms when it is pressurised. Turning this deformation into readable data is completed by the transduction element which creates an electrical signal. Every process that is measured is done so with transduction methods that are suitable to that specific process. The three main types of transducers used are potentiometric pressure transducers, capacitance pressure transducers, and resonant pressure transducers. Each of these transducers measure pressure in a similar way; however, the differences in their abilities are what makes them ideal for various applications including those with low power, low differential pressures, and low absolute pressures.
